Hurricane the storm is predicted to strengthen into a infrequent highest-level cyclone as it shifts in the direction of Jamaica, bringing deadly flash flooding and rock falls.

The hurricane, which registered wind speeds of up to 195 km/h as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is currently turning north-west in the Caribbean Sea and is projected to reach land by Tuesday, as reported by meteorological authorities.

Alerts of blackouts and damage to infrastructure have been released as the hurricane brings up to 30 inches of rain and coastal flooding as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," inhabitants have been advised.

The cyclone is the 13th named cyclone in the ongoing Atlantic storm period, which normally finishes in late autumn.

Residents are being instructed to protect their properties with sandbags and timber panels, and to stock up on essentials.
