Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
